Knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) study
From conception to school age, children experience rapid brain development. Optimal nurturing care during this period leads to better education, health, wellbeing, and lifetime earnings. Thus, parental knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) are crucial for defining each child's future.
Development Workshop Namibia (DWN) and the Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare (MGEPESW) conducted a study on early childhood development (ECD) KAP in Namibia. The study is based on almost 600 household surveys with parents in both urban and rural areas across eight regions (//Kharas, Khomas, Erongo, Omaheke, Otjozondjupa, Oshana, Kunene, and Zambezi). Additional interviews and focus groups were held with key informants and parents.
This report is written for parents, educarers, non-governmental organisations, multilateral organisations and government, to enhance understanding of parenting practices and to improve ECD interventions nationwide, to ensure that Namibian children can get the best possible start in life.
Introduction to the Key Results spreadsheet
The data contained in this spreadsheet are the key results from the knowledge attitude and practice survey published by Development Workshop Namibia in 2024, with the collaboration of Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare, and under the financial support of InterTeam. In addition to the dataset, users are advised to consider the overall KAP study report, as well as the summary and online dashboard. While this data (and the dashboard) are focused on the quantitative results from a household survey conducted at the end of 2023, the full report and summary incorporate qualitative data from interviews and focus group discussions with parents and key informants.
