Social Enterprise Approach
Scale and sustainability are crucial for the success of our programmes. However, relying solely on donor funding is challenging due to its unpredictable nature. We adopted a social enterprise approach whenever possible, selling services or products and reinvesting the proceeds directly into the respective programmes. This strategy allows for sustained growth and long-term planning.
- In the Housing For All Programme, we develop residential land and sell it to low-income earners to address the housing crisis. We charge a fee for each residential plot that’s sold and proceed to enable us to sustain the growth of the programme.
- In the ECD programme, we develop, publish and sell children’s books. While copies are delivered free of charge to disadvantaged communities, we sell the same publications to the wider public. The income from those purchases is invested in the Early Childhood Development programme.
- The Community Welfare Programme, is implemented through a nationwide network of Community Outreach Worker volunteers. To sustain this network, DWN identifies income sources which promote our objectives, such as hygiene products, toilet construction and sanitation centre maintenance.
